What is Water Heating
Water heating is one of the main sources of energy use in households in Canada, after heating and cooling and appliances: 23% of the energy used in the average Canadian home is used to heat the water; in some homes it is much more. More than half of hot water use is in the bathroom, a third in the laundry room, and the rest in the kitchen.Types of Water Heating service we provide
When it comes to heating the water, there are 2 basic types of systems: storage systems and running (or flow-through) systems. Both may use one or more sources of power to heat water, to include gas (liquefied propane and natural gas), electric power and more rarely used air to water or groung to water heat pumps.- Storage water heaters. In a storage water heater, water is warmed up and stored in an insulated tank for use on an as needed bases. Storage tanks may be made of enameled steel, or stainless steel, some manufacturers use glass lining. The tanks typically have an expendable tank anode to help reduce tank deterioration, which needs to be replaced every few years. Tanks are typically warranted for 5 to 10 years.
- Flow-through water heater also called tankless water heater. Systems with instant flow water heating only the necessary water and don't use a tank for holding it, so heat loss is much less than storage systems, making Tankless a much more energy efficient unit. These can be operated with either Natural Gas, LPG, or Electricity. They can be mounted inside on the wall and take a lot less space. Tankless water heating systems are equipped with sophisticated temperature controls that allow the user to set the desired water temperature.
