Heat Pump Rebates in Ontario (2026)

Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $7,500 for a cold-climate heat pump. Cozy Castle is an approved contractor, so we file the paperwork for you, from pre-approval to the cheque.

Checked against the program’s official pages on October 31, 2026.

How much you get

The rebate depends on how you heat your home today and on the size of the heat pump.

How you heat nowRebate per tonMaximumExample: 3 ton
Electricity, oil, propane or wood$1,250$7,500up to $3,750
Natural gas (Enbridge)$500$2,000up to $1,500

The program counts tons from the heat pump’s rated heating capacity, so the exact amount depends on the model. We put the amount in your quote. Source: Home Renovation Savings, heat pumps.

Who qualifies

  • You own the home. If it’s rented out, the owner applies.
  • It’s a detached, semi-detached, row house, townhome, or a mobile home on a permanent foundation. New homes lived in for less than six months don’t qualify.
  • You heat mainly with natural gas from Enbridge, or you’re on the Ontario power grid and heat with electricity, oil, propane or wood.
  • The heat pump is a cold-climate model on Natural Resources Canada’s qualified list. Every heat pump we quote for the rebate is.
  • A participating contractor, like us, files a pre-approval before installation.

How we get your rebate

  1. We give you a written quote, after a free visit or online from your photos.
  2. You accept the quote with a $300 deposit, applied to your final invoice.
  3. You send us a few details: your Enbridge account number (gas) or your hydro account number (electricity, oil or propane), your home’s square footage and the year it was built, plus the signed Participant Agreement. Propane homes also sign a short propane form, and you keep your tank.
  4. We submit the pre-installation application. Approval usually takes about five business days.
  5. We install your heat pump, usually in one day. The rest of the invoice is due that same day, once the installation is complete.
  6. After installation, we submit the post-installation photos and your fully paid invoice for final approval. Once it’s approved, your cheque arrives by mail within 60 days.

Don’t install first. Installations done before pre-approval aren’t eligible, and this can’t be fixed afterwards.

Loans and financing

The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan is no longer taking new applicants: Natural Resources Canada says its funding is fully committed. We offer financing through a third-party lender. Ask us for the current terms when you get your quote.

Rebate questions

Is there an end date for the heat pump rebate?

No end date has been published for the heat pump rebate. The program can change or close at any time, so we keep this page dated and update it when the terms change. The November 30, 2026 date you may see on other sites is for a different part of the program: the bundled upgrades that need an energy assessment.

Can I get the rebate if my heat pump is already installed?

Not the Ontario rebate: pre-approval is required before installation, and installs done before approval aren’t eligible. The new federal rebate is different: the Government of Canada says eligible heat pumps installed from November 1, 2026 can apply once its program opens in early 2027.

How much is the rebate if I heat with natural gas?

$500 per ton of heat pump, up to $2,000. A 2 ton heat pump gets up to $1,000 and a 3 ton up to $1,500. Homes heated with electricity, oil, propane or wood get $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500.

Do I have to remove my propane tank or oil furnace?

No. You keep your current heating as backup. Propane homes sign a short propane form, and we send it to you with the rest of the paperwork.

Do I have to deal with the program myself?

No. As an approved contractor, we submit the pre-installation and post-installation applications for you. You send us a few details and sign the Participant Agreement, and the cheque comes to you by mail.
